I agree with you. The only concern I have is if the threatened animal becomes endangered there may not be enough unrelated individuals to continue producing healthy young for a long length of time.
I hope this is never the case with any animal, but if it does happen how can a species be kept healthy? A bit off the subject, but I have heard that captive cheetah breeding has been running into similar problems. Does anyone know how breeders of endangered animals deal with this problem?
I did learn that E. Indigos are far away from running into such problems. People should be prevented from crossing easterns with another subspecies. However, I do want to see more breeders of easterns, I feel that by having a substantial population of captive bred easterns could help if wild populations ever get into bigger trouble. Plus they are great snakes and I would love to see more of them!
