ALL of the adult male indigos from the space center have keels
on about 3 rows of scales along the spine. NONE of the females do.
The biologists at the center are so sure of this method of sex determination they don't even probe any more. The keels are not easy to notice, they only extend about 1/4 of the way down the scale.
When I got home I checked my males and THERE THEY WERE! I had never noticed them before! And sure enough, the females did not have them. Now my TX and Yellow tail don't seen to follow the rules. One of my male TX has the keels, the other does not. and the male cribo does not.
so...every body check out you snakes...I'd be really interested to hear!
