: I was wondering where all of the main eastern indigo breeders got thier snakes? How diverse is the gene pool among all the captive bred indigos?
Tom,
My Eastern indigos came from diffrent sources.
Male#1 came from a line of Eastern Indigos that were produced by chcuk Elliot
Male#2 came from a private breeder in Ohio
Male#3 came from another breeder, unrelated to the above breeders snake, out of Chicago
Female#1 Came from Dan Atkinson in N. california
Female #2 Came from A gentleman in califonia that bought her as a hatchling from a breeder in Montana.
I beleive that all these are unrelated, from diffrent bloodlines, gene pols. have not done the DNA tests to confirm this, however have low incidence of defects in the young.
Also have others, but related to above snakes, so do not use them as breeders.
Hope this helps.
