: I liked what you said! Just look at the balls, corns, kings and the list goes on. Many herpers have given the government justification for acting the way they do. Until the tide can be turned to where the government can see the majority can act like responsible breeders and not mad scientists they will not change, and IMO not change. If they open the door on the Indigos in Florida, any way shape or form, even just a crack it will be exploited to the Nth degree. Then the Indigos will become extinct in the wild and all that will remain is a memory.
: We(me soon to be) as breeders of these wonderful creatures must stand up for the rights of the snake, not that of the all mighty dollar. This might offend some in Florida, that can not help the snakes plea, but I am sorry.
Dan,
The only snake group that i can equate Drymarchon with would probably be Pituophis. most pi fanatics are very opiniated when it comes to crossing or hybridization. And they are also opinionated on the subject of over-collection.
With everyone TRYING(Operative word TRYING) to make a living(8sic*) out of this hobby, the drive to wild collect everything is still on. I fyou dont beleive it, look in the classifieds and witness the huge amount of brokers there. Now, brokers do have their place, especially honest ones, but with the rush on to create revenue, E. Indigos would become just another marketable asset to harvest and sell. sure, there are wild populations now, but I beleive if it is opened up, they will get decimated. After 10 years of keeping these snakes, it is not my will to deny others the pleasure of doing so, but if I knew that by doing so, I would open up the door to allow the unscroupulous folks to exploit them more than they allready do, then I would get rid of mine.
Sincerely,
Fred
