The Indigos that are being tracked on kennedy space center almost always have food in their guts when collected. There is an abundance of prey available, and since Indigos eat so many different prey items; rodents, snakes, frogs, lizards, etc. they do not have trouble finding food. I believe they eat very frequently, at least in warm weather. a consideration, however is their activity level in the wild. The amount of exercize they get is going to burn a lot of calories...whereas in captivity...they pretty much just lay there, and aren't going to need nearly as much food. Robert Sieb mentioned to me on the phone that his young indigos eat very frequently (alomst daily, it sounded to me) but he keeps them in large, humid enclosers. I would think the young snakes in larger enclosure would move around a lot more, and thus be able to go through more food, and probably end up growing faster. I'm not big on "pumping" snakes, but I bet they'll be prone to taking more food if they are more active. You'll just need a very secure hiding place if you decide to use a larger enclosure, as juv. Indigos are very nervous snakes.
...just my 2 cents worth
Dean
