In Reply to: Indigo just laid eggs, quick question posted by Rob Carmichael on March 10, 2001 at 13:43:27:
I've heard breeders who have used temperatures from 72f to 83f successfully. I use upper 70's. They actually can have clutches of as many as the mid 20's! 7-14 is more normal though.
I have experience with an eggbound indigo.
Eggbound: This is what I've done that worked: Give the snake an overnight rest and see if she drops it. If not, I wouldn't waste more time. If you have a good vet and the egg is close to the vent, you can gently try to help move the egg down manually (not likely to help but worth trying). The next thing that works well is to use probes to hold open the vent and with a large syringe and large bore needle, aspirate as much of the egg out of the shell as you can, then when the egg is partially collapsed, you can grab the egg with tweezers or hemostats and remove it.
With the help of a fellow herper I was able to do the previous procedures to remove two eggs. My snake had 3 bound eggs and the 3rd egg was too far to remove this way. That's when the vet came in handy and a cesarean section was done. It was very expensive but very successfull.
Please let me know how things go.

: My three year old indigo just laid seven eggs. What have you all found to be a typical clutch size? Also, is 78 deg. an ideal incubating temp.? I breed colubrids/pythons/boas, however, this is my first try at indigos; any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
