Steve,
since nobody has offered to respond, thought I would take a shot at it.
Newspaper is cheap, cleans up easily , is readily available, and cant be INGESTED by the snakeIndigos are MESSY snakes that require frequent cleaning in order to keep their cages clean and them in good health. Newspaper works well, looks terrible and is cheap.
My second choice would be either Aspen bedding or Sani-chips, a compressed wood chip that works well. Only 1 problem here, they can and WILL ingest this material in their mouths, and i beleive it can cause blockage later on. It can also do a number on their oral cavities. And finally, you never really rid the cage of "that smell" when you use aspen or shaveings, as it lingers on any parts that you inadvertently miss or overlook.
Clean is better, use newspaper and clean often.
Hope this helped,
Fred
