: I was told it takes quite a bit to get one of these guys to bite? And untill I was told I never even knew they were a semi hot? Could you elaborate on this for me. I was thinking about getting a pair till I could afford a pair of Easterns.
: Still learning and quite stubborn
My experience with Cribos has been that wild caught ones I've encountered have shown some defensive aggression. This seems only natural to me that a wild animal suddenly in captivity would be alittle bewildered and defensive. I have never personally seen a captive born and raised one that showed any aggression. I am not saying that none of them do, but ones that I have seen that were raised with care seem to me less likely to bite than Easterns or Texas. Very few Yellowtails have been born and raised in captivity to this point so they seem to have a reputation for more aggression, but I suspect that captive born will be more acclimated to captivity than the wild ones. I have an eight foot unicolor that is totally non aggressive. I hand feed it and from a hatchling on it has never made one aggressive move, not even the slightest bluff. My Texas sometimes rattle their tails and seem alittle territorial in their enclosures, but tame right down out of their cages. I can say the same for my Easterns. Blacktails I've dealt with(such as the one in some earlier pictures on this forum) have been docile also. I personally believe that as a subspecies of captive born and raised Drymarchon snakes Unicolor and Blacktails are the tamest. I'm not sure of what you mean by semi-hots, but don't worry about venom. They may have some glands that in some snakes produce venom, but I have yet to find anyone who can document a case of invenomation from drymarchon. I have been bit afew times and suffered no ill effects. Hope this helps. I believe that Blacktails are very under appreciated and they are the most reasonable cost wise. VWillis
