Several people have asked me about my set up so I thought I'd post a pic. I'm in the process of re-modeling my snake room, building a lot more of these cages. I'm sure the vision cages that a lot of you use are great, but I make these myself...they workout great and cost me a lot less! The original design for this cage was by Greg Maxwell (formerly "Cagemaster", that business is now closed). Greg designed these cages with Indigos specifically in mind.
Here are some details:
-- total dimentions: 6'L X 2'D X 18"H
-- melamine coated particle board constuction with glass window.
-- ceramic heat lamp socket contolled by a dimmer switch
-- flourescent lights (I use full spectrum tubes)
-- built in hide area that stays cool, (assuming the room is cool)
the hide area will remain the same temp as the room the cage
is in, even if the warm part of the cage is in the mid
eighties. This helps replicate natural burrow conditions.
-- I control both the heat and flourescent lights on timers, to
replicate natural light cycles.
-- You'll notice I have 2 water dishes. The one stays 1/4 of the way inder the heat lamp. This helps keep the humidity up. The other is for drinking. (they don't seem to like to drink the warm water)
These have worked out very well for me. The design makes them easy to clean, and the snakes seem to like them!
