: Fred,

: Is your 7 ft+ male "cadillac"? Those big Indigos are just very cool.

: But I think Pituophis could give Indigoes a run for the largest North American species. (Maybe Coachwhips too). I've seen captive born Pine snakes that grew to be huge, pushing 8 foot easy. I also know a guy who has had easy 7 FT Pituophis sayi. The ones I had almost exploded to the 6 foot range, so I suspected they would eventually get much bigger. A lot of this is not well documented though and I fully understand the tendency to exaggerate the length of snakes!

:
: : : I've recently been in contact with somebody who has a couple Gopher snakes that are both in excess of 8 feet. One may even exceed the 9 foot mark. The pictures appear to confirm the claim.

: : : I have read that indigos are the largest American Colubrid with the longest recorded somewhere near 9 feet. This may still be true in the wild, but at least in captivity, it looks like they now are #2 with 9 foot pituophis being raised.

: : : I have a 7 plus foot male EI that could easily break 8 feet in his life, but I don't see it ever reaching 9.

: : : What's your biggest indigo? Biggest you've seen?

:
: : Doug,
: : The largest Indigo I have ever SEEN was a male that I bought as an adult 10 years ago from a shop in S.Ca. He was 9 ft when i purchased him, and i was assured he was capitve bred. I later had to treat him at a local vet and sold him to an Indigo breeder. My current male is about 7 ft+ now and is still growing, which is kind of mazeing since he is very old. (Documented)
: : Thanks for raiseing the question.

: : Fred

joe,
Yes my male "Cadillac" is about 7 ft long now. He is very old. There are big Pits out ther, no doubt. My female albino
bull(Sayi) is about 61/2 ft right now, and i have seen pics pf shannon brown with what looked like an solid 8ft Pit. sayi But Indigos get longer in length, though you dont see that many that big anymore. Maybe it is because of overcollecting, I really dont know.

Fred
