: Hi, today in class we were talking about indigo snakes and racers and racers and my teacher was telling us that indigos and racers produce a mild dangerous siliva does something to your blood.I was wondering is this true? I didnt belive it but I wasnt sure either. So does anyone know? FLHerper
Someone emailed me a copy of an article entitled `Venomous or Not?'... It has a list of all genera known to have Duvernoy's glands, which are the glands that, in colubrids, produce venom/toxic saliva. Not only was this list -very- long, but Drymarchon and Coluber were on it. The article also had an anecdotal account of a racer killing mice in 15-45 sec. via venom... which certainly makes more sense than the `pressing the prey item against the ground until dead' account you usually hear about racers.
