: Hi, today in class we were talking about indigo snakes and racers and racers and my teacher was telling us that indigos and racers produce a mild dangerous siliva does something to your blood.I was wondering is this true? I didnt belive it but I wasnt sure either. So does anyone know? FLHerper
Not being a scientist, I can't answer this authoritatively, but I would say that, as with any animal bite, or any other break in the skin, it is possible to pick up some infection. I have been bitten a few times by a couple of Indigos(my fault-stupid feeding mistakes)and have not suffered any known bad effects. Now that you mention it though, I have noticed that most of the guys on this forum that have posted pictures of themselves have been bald. I myself am developing a bald spot. I don't know if they have ever been bitten, but it will be interesting to hear from them. Seriously, though, I would say that while Indigos and Cribos seldom bite, they have great jaw pressure and if an adult got a serious hold on you, you would probably need stitches. Personally, I love Indigos so much that, even if they cause baldness, I will still keep them. Hope you never get bitten, but if you do, wash carefully and apply some anti-biotic. I wouldn't have much fear of anything more serious than stitches. They are bluffers more than biters and a great snake to have. VWillis
