Indigos are known for almost always having gentle dispositions, although they are EXTREMELY agressive feeders. If a beginner were to be interested in buying one from me I would be a little leery. They get large and are active snakes...require a lot of room as adults. They are a lot "messier" than most snakes. (they defacate more often and it's smelly and semi-liquid. The babies can be a little tricky to get started as well, although once they get started they do very well. They are also a very expensive and rare snake, I usually recommend beginners start with a king or corn snake.
On the plus side, they are really awesome snakes.
long-lived and usually gentle.
I guess it comes down to the beginner hmiself. Between indigosnakes.com and the folks on this forum, we can certainly help you. If you are dedicated to the higher maintenence of an Indigo snake, and willing to take the time to educate yourself about their care, (and willing to spend the money for the snake and a nice large enclosure) then you should be ok.
