In Reply to: Indigo vs. Brooksi?.... posted by john on December 18, 2000 at 08:45:55:
: I've seen these two animals together when I lived in Florida. I was cleaning cages and I placed an Indigo on a table near another table that had a large Brooksi on it (out of the cage also). Somehow it didn't occur to me then (i was young) that one very large snake would actually see another very large snake as a meal. The Indigo lifted his anterior off the table slightly and cocked his head in the direction of the king. The kingsnake was doing some serious tongue flicking in the direction of the Indigo but was not showing quite the alertness of the Indigo. It looked like for a split second that they were both ready to lunge as they were just tensing up at each other. I almost dived to grab them and got one in each hand just as they were both springing. In my hand the Indigo continue to jerk his head around in the direction of the king, while the brooksi wrapped himself around my arm tighter than i ever thought it really could. It seemed to me that the Indigo was more "intelligent", or at least displayed behavior that made me think it was more intelligent, but after having my arm squeezed like that i thought the brute strength of a large kingsnake would have pretty easily overpowered the Indigo. I think the Indigo could have easily handle a thinner 3 or 4 foot king but after that I think the king would win.
: sorry for the long post..
