: my baby was born on July 27 and still has not eaten. I have tried everything pinkies, goldfish, frogs and every combination. IT has shed 4 times and poops about every 3 weeks, it still has plenty of energy. Should i be worrying or just keep waiting??
4 months is a long time to have eaten nothing. You may already have waited too long,
but you should try something. The least invasive approach is to "assist feed." You have to
gently hold the snake and place a small pinky into its mouth. At first it will try to spit
it out. But hang in there and be patient. If you are lucky, after awhile the natural
feeding impulse will kick in and your snake will eat the food item in its mouth. Then
gently replace the snake into its cage. Wait about two days, then try to assist feed it again.
After a few feedings you can assist feed it daily until it begins feeding on its own.
Then carefully analyse the cage system. Baby Indigos prefer an environment where they can
bury into a moist medium. They need a cool background temperature in the 70's and a hot spot of
about 82 degrees. I use pine shavings and pour water into the cooler portion when they begin
to dry out.
I hope this proves helpful to you.
Sincerely,
robert seib
