Juergen,
I too have been playing with the idea of writing a book on the eight subspecies of Drymarchon. Actually what I have in mind is more of a species monograph. Maybe something a little more scientific than what you have in mind. The monograph will cover the biology, ecology, ranges, records of museum collections and collection locals, conservation and maybe some husbandry of all eight subspecies. I don't know when this project will begin but I'm hoping that an academic friend of mine will collaborate with me once he finishes his PhD at Harvard.
Currently I am a biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in South Florida and I work at the Florida Panther and Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuges where eastern indigo snakes can be found and are locally still pretty common.
If you would like to correspond with me through e-mail I might be able to help you out.
