I have an idea that I want to run by everyone to make sure there is enough support for it before I do allot of work. I would like to set up an Indigo/Drymarchon web site that will basically be run by the indigo/Drymarchon community. I am a web designer by trade, so this is something I would be willing to do if there is enough support. I would like to set it up very similar to the Pituophis page (but better of course lol). If you have never seen this page, click the link below and check it out. When I was first interested in the Indigo Snake, I was very disappointed in the lack of Indigo/Drymarchon content on the web. Other than Fred’s site and the care sheet at the herp site, there isn’t really allot of info for a potential Indigo/Drymarchon buyer to draw from. There is this forum, but I notice that the same questions seem to get asked and answered over and over. I thought that it might be nice to have one central Indigo/Drymarchon site chucked full of information giving the Indigo/Drymarchon community a platform to help further the development of these wonderful snakes. There would be a “Species info” section that would list each Drymarchon and give details such as description, photo, habitat, range, status, etc….. Other sections could include “Care Sheets”, “Photo Gallery”, “Permits”, a “Chat Room”, this “Forum”, and most importantly a “Breeders Page” that could link as many breeders sites to the main site as possible. I thought that since there seems to be no one RIGHT way to breed Indigos, that the breeders could put there own personal breeding sections on there linked sites if they wanted to. Anyway…..I think everyone gets the picture of what I’d like to do. I just want to hear from everyone to see if there is actually interest in this. If there is interest, we could go about it one of two ways. If the site only links to commercial sites than we can get it hosted for free at Kingsnake.com. The downside to that is that the breeders would each have to host their own sites at a much higher cost than everyone could together. For instance, I could charge all breeders say $50.00 a year(or whatever the split would be depending on the number of breeders involved) and host their sites within the main site but still keeping them seperate. For those with existing sites we could still link yours. For those that don’t have a website yet but want one, I would be willing to create you a very nice custom site with graphic design for a modest $200.00 one time fee with a $50.00 a year site maintenance fee that would cover daily updates. Please don’t think that I am trying to make money here. The only time anybody will get charged by me is if I am doing a web site for them that is going to be used to make money themselves, and my fees are way below my actual cost. The main thing is that I need to know how much interest there is in this. I know some may think that this would be a bad thing……possibly leading to commercialization…..this is fine……I want to hear everyone’s opinion and we’ll go from there. By the way, I will need many of you experts to write content, send pictures, etc……this will be a group effort.
