The vast majority of the Texas Indigos I have seen in the wild are very dark snakes with a hint of rust around the labials and gulars. I have never seen a snake in south Texas that was anywhere near as light anteriorly as that pictured in the Conant and Collins field guide. If you want something that looks like couperi, then erebennus is the way to go.
