I've kept lots of pits and have Easten Indigos and now Black tails...I don't think Indigos are much worse than pits, they defecate a little more frequently, keep them on newspaper for sure.
If you can deal with Pituophis...you'll be fine.
They are extremely alert snakes, they need lots of space and seem to be pretty intelligent.
