An iguana's personality or temper is not engraved in stone.
So just because some people have iguanas that let them dress up like Mexican mariaches, doesn't mean urs will let u too.

Was he adopted? Some adpoted iguanas had bad experiences with their past owners, and so they are harder to tame.

Also, the approach should be slow, and unthreatning. Reaching from above means trouble for them, so try to reach from the sides, and "scoop it up" gently.

Have u ever let it free-roam? Some iguanas become more calm whe used to free-roam with their owners around. Eventually they undertand that u're not a threat.

Offer treats, be present, and let it quiet down once u hold it.
I'm sure others have better ideas, but this is the best I can tell ya! Good luck. And keep in mind it wasn't designed to be a domestic animal, so u're not the only person in the world with a b*tchy iguana. ;)
