Okay I'll bite again!! First I believe that some people (young or old) will buy an exotic pet because it's "different" or "ccol" no matter how many "nicey" or "monster from he!! stories they hear ahead of time. These are of course the ones who either let them die or give them up later on. I don't believe that any amount of discouragement (even though I and others REALLY REALLY try) will change there minds!

As far as Hatfield's book (I just got through reading it cover to cover CONGRATULATE ME! Before I had borrowed it and read the main feeding habitat etc.) Anyway his book does show some cutesy pictures and does have some cutesy stories but it also seems to have many EVIL incarnate stories of the ones that attack at no provocation go through the very worst of the spectrum in breeding etc. So I would have to say that if someone does ACTUALLY READ his book (I'm meaning new owners, or pre-owners not experienced owners) it would neither encourage nor discourage (well maybe discourage a little if you weren't sure in the first place!!) a person to own an iguana. It does definitely point out the needs of an iguana and the problems you could face.

Now then hopefully at some point and time these new books and web sites and knowledgeable people will discourage the "I have to have the cute LITTLE lizard" type people from buying and killing or giving up the iguana

There my two cents yet again!

Stephanie
