Unlike most herpers I know, I am NOT a snake person. Nothing against them, but they don't strike my fancy. I'm more into lizards (geckos, beardies, monitors, chameleons). I don't listen to hard rock, nor do I have a shaved head (but I have a goatee). I prefer COOL weather, and I'm rarely if ever referred to as 'weird'.
I've met herpers who take the hobby very seriously and have no room whatsoever for humor. The herpers I've met come from all walks of life, with varied customs and ideas. The only real common thread I have found among herpers is a higher than average intelligence.
I guess it takes some level of intelligence to question the 'evil serpent' mentality and see these animals for the fascinating creatures they are.
