:The hl just outside Ojai calif., is that a coastal? it's been 6-7 years, but when i was camping up in the mountains we saw several very orange animals that looked as if they may be integrade coastal/desert animals. I don't know if this happens with hls as it does with other herps, but they were big suckers!! Next question, I assume they are coastals, if so, can I go catch one with a cal. fishing license?

chuck-I have also seen the same coloration in coastals, I doubt this is an intergrade, if is a costal you would need a permit to collect. Best way is look at the fringe on the sides, coastals have two rows of fringe on the side where as the deserts have one, besides head differenced and body differences. There is a frontale as well as blainville and this could be frontale, but it's still a coastal. Maybe Lester would throw in his two cents as well.
