Okay, I read all of the pasts posts and see your point with the HL and their natural environment. So here is the next question.
If I go collect this "wash sand" do I need to purify it in any way before putting in the HL's tank? I have heard of baking substrate and even putting it in a plastic bag in the sun for a few days. Is this necessary?
