Ok here is my current setup until i get my one outside done:

50 gallon breeder tank 36"x18"
1.5" Play Sand
Large Piece of Grapevine (to climb around on)
a 18" full spectrum bulb
a 100 watt esu bulb to warm up the warm end (stays just over
110 degrees on grapevine - 100 on sand)
a 75 wall bulb to just light up the other end of tank

Any suggestions on substrate would be helpfull
I know i need to make it a little deeper - esp if i expect one of my females to lay eggs in it.

I was thinking of using a Fine Sand/Topsoil Mix (maybe 80%/20%)
i am not sure how it is in nevada but our okie horned toads dont get to play with much sand.

Also was wondering if a X-large Vision Tortoise Tub would work to make a perm enclosure for them i am looking at the large tubs that are Measures-76" wide x 40" deep x 22" high

What i am planning on doing is putting it on my lockable screened in front porch, with like 2' stickin outside to give them a a natural sun area of 2' x 40" then leaving the rest in the screened area.

Also what types of little cactus live where the deserts are from, can i use hen and chicks etc...
