Mine doesn't like to be cooped up in his feeding container and often hisses and hoods when I let him out. But this is all an act, if you noticed when you struck at you - his mouth was closed. They will never bite in defense. These snakes are big blow-hards and are very good-natured at heart. They just put on their show when they are moody. When they do this, if you just leave them alone for a couple minutes they will calm down. Enjoy your new hognose, and don't let this little show make you think they have bad personalities. They are little angels and are very pleasant, calm, and enjoyable when handled.

:I know he was stressed out from being shipped, but jeez, he's a nasty little bugger! He let out the biggest hiss I've heard from a snake that size while I was trying to unpack him, and whipped around to bite. Hmph. ungrateful monster:-)
