I seem to have a fairly good amount of luck looking for hogs. First of all, I find about 99% of my hogs near a creek. About 50% of these are within 10 yards the actual creek. A large number of these hogs are never under cover. They might be curled up in grass, on a trail, in between tree trunks, or even basking on the path. I have rarely found a hog under a piece of derbis. Sand sometimes matters, sometimes doesn't. I have hogs in places without sand...leaf litter is a welcome substitute for them. Best times to look are morning and dusk, although I have still found them throughout the day in all different seasons. Andy
