California Gilas

Hey Kerry, or anyone else that wants to answer, if I am going to search for Gilas in California, what should I look for in the way of weather conditions? From what I gather, I should wait until the monsoon season (and obviously not right now) but is there any other weather conditions I should be looking for before heading out to "Gila Land"?
