It could be one of many things. As you said, normal black scales just coming in. Could be bacterial skin from too much humidity.........maybe some scarring. Hard to tell. Just keep a close eye on it for a while. Keep us posted.

:Yesterday my GTP just shed his skin. Afterwards, I removed him from his cage and got off his perch to handle him. I noticed that about half way down his body, on one side near the ventral scales, there were black colored scales there. I was worried at first because I thought it was skin rot or a scar. Upon closer inspection, it just looks like a small patch of scales are now turning black. Is this normal? He is already like 3 years old. The black scales really look odd to me and out of place.
