I may be wrong, but I have been told that there are restrictions on buying formaldehyde, you can't just get it at the drug store.
But that doesn't matter. Since you are donating them to the sceince class have your daughters teacher order you some. Sceince teachers can order many chemicals for use in the classroom, that the average person can't easily get, including formaldehyde.
You might also consider taking one down to the skeleton and mounting it on a plaque so the students can learn about the skeletal structure of snakes. I have a 5' boa in the freezer I am planning on doing that with myself.
