I have tried to keep Acrochordus javanicus (Elephant Trunk Snakes), Acrochordus granulatus (Asiatic File Snake - the black and white ones) and Erpeton (Tentacled Snakes).

I kept the Elephant Trunks and Tentacled snakes in a shallow freshwater aquarium and I kept the File Snakes in a shallow salt water tank. All species had basking branches (although the Acrochordus didn't use them).

In all three species, they did fine for a few weeks and then they started to develop little white granular lesions on their skin. Over time, these get worse, they don't respond to treatment and the snakes die.

I have read that they are the result of some sort of immune deficiency due to stress, but don't have any credible data to support that.

Quite a few zoos keep and breed Erpeton, so you might be able to find some more info from one of them. I have seen the colony at San Antonio Zoo eating goldfish they placed in the tank.

Elephant Trunk Snakes and Erpeton both are available from importers. They aren't very personable snakes (especially ET snakes!) and aren't the kind of snake you can hold (apparently holding ET snakes out of the water can stress their circulatory system).

If you find some good info on how to prevent the little white lesions from forming on their skin, I would love to know!
