colds, flu, and other "human" ailments...

Can I give these things to my snakes? I am pretty careful about washing my hands BOTH before and after handling to protect both myself and my animals, but when I am ill (today) I am somewhat hesitant to interact with them at all. Am I being overly cautious? What's the general feeling on this one. Thanks. Duffy
