Snakes themselves don't have a smell, it's when they defecate that smells. Or if you leave a dead prey item in there too long, really stinky. Although with just one snake this shouldn't be a problem. We feed our snakes, leave some in there overnight for picky feeders, and go back the next day to check. As long as you keep the cage clean you shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure to tell your roommates that they don't bark, shed hair all over, poop on the floor (well unless you have them out and they have to go). Hope this helps some. Good luck!
