Mine *NEVER* let me watch them eat :( I guess it makes sense if you consider that in the wild, that is their most vulnerable position - it would pay to be secretive, and not let a potential predator watch you eat.
I wish I could breed button quail, or have a dovecote or something, but right now, I live in an apartment, with a cat, lol. Sigh - someday, when I hope to buy a house with some land.....

:I meant to add that they do sometimes get big enough to eat chicken eggs, but you can't bet on it, and if you buy a juvenile, you'd have to start it on quail eggs. And they can stretch their jaws a LOT, but there's a limit, and they're small snakes! But my fun idea is that you could breed your own button quail. They look really cute. I wonder if you could freeze the eggs...
:If you can't tell, I don't have any Dasypeltis myself, but I've been SORELY tempted. I've heard that they're very secretive and that they usually won't let you watch them eat, which isn't any fun.
:I read that black rat snakes eat eggs in the wild, but mine wouldn't eat one from the fridge. I guess I could mouse scent it, but he'd probably just make a mess...
