An Argentine Tegu can be a great lap dog and once they get big, they lay around a lot. Savannahs can be tempermental dependent on the individual. A Black Throat monitor is a great monitor with a good disposition. They whip and huff when little, just don't be fearful of that and handle them anyway, otherwise they're the boss. Black Throats get BIG though at 5-6 feet in length. Of course this is not an end-all be-all for your question, do your research and be wary in the monitor forum, as they rip newbies to shreds. Check proexotics.com for care sheets, pictures and general prices. Remember that the cost of the reptile will pale by the cost of housing, heating and feeding. For instance, Black Throat (when mature) will need an enclosure that's 10 feet long, 4 feet deep and 4 or 6 feet high. ~Gene
