It seems to me like people in the south overall have a less kind attitude towards animals. I know there are many many people who love animals and care about them in the south, but I notice the attitude here is basically "if it doesn't walk on two legs, you can kill it" This is from experience, i am not "some yuppie from seattle" who doesn't know anything about people here. In washington we have 'coyote hunts' where a bunch of rednecks drink beer and surround a coyote, then club it to death. this is sickening. The only thing we can do about these acts are (besides shooting the idiots) Donate to PETA, greenpeace or earthfirst type organizations. Some of PETA's actions are extreme in my opinion, but they get the job done, and god help any redneck who wants to stand in their way. You can volunteer a few hours a week at a local humane society, donate food, etc. These shelters need everything you can spare. There is a person here in Columbus, Georgia, I noticed in the paper is funding spaying and neutering at a local vet: half off prices. This was encouraging to see people helping their community. You can also feed a local stray in your area, like a cat. This helps the local chipmunk and bird population. I feed about 3 strays living in my area, they are fat, happy, and I have never seen them with a prey animal. Anything you can do helps.
