Michael, The dump stations are not an internet rumor. I am sorry to say that the dump stations are real. There has been a lot of public outrage against them here in the southern U.S., and a few of them have been closed because of it. The problem is that counties have to fund their own animal shelters, and the residents of many rural counties simply refuse to fund them. Yes, sadly many people here still do see animals as disposable objects. The dump stations were seen as a way to keep the animals from being dumped on the side of the road or at rural garbage dumps. Obviously, this is a terrible solution as numerous animals have been injured not just by other animals but also by the three-foot fall through the drop chute and high summer temperatures within the structure. Anyway, rest assured that people here are outraged about it and trying to pressure these counties into getting rid of them. Sadly, however, many residents of these counties will simply go back to dumping their animals on the side of the road.
