Leopard geckos reach less than 1 foot, and so do crested geckos. Also, they could both be handled. So, i would choose 1 of them. Giant day geckos are also very colourful, and are active during the day..., but you said you wanted something to handle...so, i wouldnt choose them. They COULD be tame (like mine), but their skin tears very easily...

leaf tail geckos are also very cool and interesting, but they get pretty big (but some species get very small).

Pictus geckos are also very cool, and dont get very big...but they are terrestrial, so a longer cage is better than a higher one...
