In Reply to: Some thoughts on handling uroplatus... posted by lizard queen on April 21, 2003 at 23:51:00:

:Most Uroplatus, especially wild-caught individuals, dislike being handled and are very badly stressed by it.

:But there is a big difference with CB individuals--they are usually MUCH calmer and more tolerant of handling. Especially Barkley...he is second generation CBB (the first F2 henkeli that I know of). The second generation CBB babies I have hatched out and raised are even more calm than their CBB parents, and they don't seem to be stressed at all by gentle handling.

:Also, I think it has a lot to do with the personality of the individual gecko. Barkley is very docile and sweet-tempered. He has been handled frequently since I hatched him out last October, with no ill effects. He even seems to enjoy coming out to explore outside his cage :)

:On the other hand, this little guy, Alex, is one of my 1st generation CBB babies, and he doesn't put up with much handling at all. He hisses and doesn't hesitate to bite! Needless to say, I leave him alone because handling stresses him so much. But he is cool to look at, anyway :)
