Strange Tokay Behavior.......anyone know why hes doing this?

Does anyone know why my tokay gecko keeps biting this stick? This is just some firewood i found in the garage for my tank, I boiled it and baked it at 350 degrees to disinfect it. My guess is that he is either attracted to the fresh smell it puts off or hes trying to sharpen his little teeth. Anyone got any ideas?
