Like David said "AFTS are great" I have 11 Fat Tails myself. They're easily one of the most docile geckos. I've handled wild caught and captive bred Fat Tails and have never once been bitten.
If you use the IR heating element, use it with a ceramic dome fixture(Click on the link $10.95) or pick one up a Fluker Dome at EastBay Vivarium. The combination of the UTH and the ceramic heater should do well for ground as well as ambient temperature (85F - 90F). You could use some Scott's Sphagnum peat or repti-carpet for substrate. Make sure you provide a moist hide, some dry hides and a small dish of calcium. Here is a very good care sheet link:
