I don't think that 'tame' and 'smart' are the same thing. Theoretically it would be 'smarter' for a tiny lizard to be very afraid of large mammals like ourselves. My dog doesn't even enjoy being picked up, and we can agree that she's very much smarter than a lizard. On the other hand, there are fish that will 'greet' their owners on sight (eg. cowfish). So it's mostly a 'getting used to you' thing and not an intelligence thing.
