I've had the same trouble with my AFT's. I've come to the conclusion that it's the dryness of winter and the furnace being on a lot seems to cause shedding problems. For the problem areas of stuck shed around the head and eyes I soak the area around the eyes using a wet Q-Tip. I let the stuck shed soak up the water then gently work the shed away from it's skin using the Q-Tip.
