: : : While reading these follow ups to the question of the worlds largest reptile, I found myself trying so hard not to laugh! The only accurate piece of information here is Dave's follow up. The worlds largest reptile IS the reticulated python which has met the record of 10 meters (yes, bigger than the anaconda!). The largest lizard IS the Komodo Dragon reaching not quite 4 meters. Crocodiles or Alligators are NOT the biggest reptiles recorded no matter what anyone tells you. The boa constrictor is NO WHERE NEAR the largest living reptile. Good job setting the record straight, Dave.
: : Well then I should point out that we're talking about the world's *largest* reptile here, not the world's longest. Does that mean length, weight, or a combination of both? A 30 foot crocodile is easily much heavier than a 33 foot snake. Whether a 23 foot crocodile is heavier than a 33 foot snake is open to much speculation, and I'm quite sure neither have been weighed. A big croc can be very broad, so think before you scoff that a 23 ft animal could equal a 33 ft animal in weight.
: : In addition, I'd have to be sure that 33 feet was an authenticated and accurate measurement for the reticulated python. 33 feet is the largest ever claimed saltwater crocodile, but these facts have been shown to be untrue. Who measured the python, and was it skinned or unskinned?

: Or do you mean captive the record for that is a 22 foot reticulated python in the NY zoo.
