You don't want to feed them the fish fillets because they're nutritionally deficient. It's ok to feed whole fish for the most part beacuase it is a complete animal and tends to be more balanced nutritionally. As far as the goldfish thing goes, I think it has to do with oils on/in them? Although it will not kill your animal immediately, it's believed that long term diets of goldfish are negative on the health of any reptiles. Finally, I think it's best to offer as varied of a diet as possible to avoid any problems likely to be caused by only feeding one thing all the time, but I am no expert so it's just an opinion.
