It's not the feeding of live prey that makes a gator dangerous it's the habituation to people feeding it that does that. If you feed your alligator of tongs or fingertips(YIKES) it will become conditioned very quickly to viewing you as a food source. All this is because of a natural predatory instinct. The food item has little to do with it. As a matter of fact the few animals I've rel;eased following rehab we made sure to feed them live as to prevent association with us a a food source, they were the shyest animals of all. It worked ok.
