I have my own garter snake. i feed him a viriaty of thing, but my best results are earthworms, tadpoles, or store bought snake food. just keep in mind that they only eat about twice a week. as for water, you probably want to put a water bowl in his cage that he can coil up nicely in, and change the water atleast three times a week. good luck! :)

: : : : put goldfish, leeches, in a water dish also eats eathworms, grashoppers other invertibrates. always have a water dish provided both for drinking and soaking when about to shed. Keep it 70 at night and not any higher than 90 during the day.
