what do u guys usually start your WC garters on?(more)

i cought a couple nice garters this past weekend because the weather her outside rochester hit teh 80 degree mark,,the weather is cool again but if the weather climes again this weekend i am gonna catch a pair of garters to keep,,,i used to feed my Wild caught garters worms,,,but i was wondering if any take to mice right away? there is an abundant amount of snakes around my house and really no water supply but 2 miles away so i dont think they will feed on goldfish?
