Snake making cat-like noise!

Question for everyone. I woke up in the middle of the night Thursday to hear a cat crying outside my window. Got up and looked outside and no cat...turns out it was my adult garter. I watched him for a little while and every 30 seconds or so he would make this meowing/crying noise. I have never heard anything like this out of any of my other snakes, and it completely baffled me. He appears to be behaving normally and has not made the noise in the last 24 hours. Any clues or help?
