Hello all! I'm new to the forum, although I've been reading for a while. I'm planning on getting a garter within the next month -my first venture as a proud momma to such a fascinating species. However, I would like to know all I can before taking on the responsibility. I've read and heard that snakes are easy to take care of, but realistically is anything? I can't even keep my new shoes clean the first day. Anyway, I'm a bit confused about everything I've read as far as housing. I would really like to provide a natural habitat, you know, soil, bark, leaves maybe, but I don't want to cause disease or parasites. My roommate, for Christmas bought me a 10 gallon tank, will I actually need a larger one for more comfort? As you can see, I'm kind of lost and all the articles and care sheets I've read are swirling around in my head. Might you all offer any tips to ease my fears of doing something wrong from the get go? Many thanks.
